The Pakachoag Hill area of Auburn is well understood as the ancestral home of the Nipmuc people. Today, a portion of this land also serves as the home of Pakachoag Church / Pakachoag Center, the Dr. Arthur and Dr. Martha Pappas Recreation Complex and the Pakachoag Hiking Trail.

Over the past year, Indigenous tribal members including Chief Ladybug (Croatan) from Native Heritage New England, Chief Eagle Rising (Mi’kmaq) from the Greater Lowell Indian Cultural Association, and Chief Blackwolf of the Nipmuc tribe, as well as other nations have been working with the Pakachoag Center and No Evil Project to find an appropriate way to celebrate this land. Together we are working to bring a Powwow to the grounds surrounding the Pakachoag Center on October 5-6, 2024.

A Powwow is an incredible ceremonial gathering that celebrates the culture and heritage of Indigenous tribes. Like most Powwows, this event will be open to the public, offering an exciting and immersive experience for non-natives that is like no other.

Bringing about an event of this size will require significant support from the greater community, with costs estimated at $25,000 for a customary 2 day event. Although a 1 day event is also possible, we are reaching out now to ask businesses, individuals, community groups and community leaders, to engage with us to make this event happen as planned.

A preview of what the greater community can expect to experience at a powwow, including regalia, drums, dance, food and conversation, will be held at the Pakachoag Center on May 9th from 5 to 7 p.m. We hope that this spring event will help you and other leaders from the greater community understand the importance of a Powwow and the impact of supporting the 2 day event planned for October 2024.
